Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque

Ensemble OrQuesta was founded in 2013 by Marcio da Silva. The core company is dedicated to performing 17th and 18th century opera in all its richness and diversity to the highest of standards accompanied by the specialist musicians of Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque on period instruments.

Ensemble OrQuesta is passionate about presenting creative and musically authentic interpretations of both well-loved and lesser-known 17th and 18th century operas. We offer opportunities for young singers and early career specialist instrumentalists to develop their skills and collaborate to deliver opera performances and recitals of the highest artistic quality. Our Grimeborn Festival production of Handel’s Alcina was named No 4 in The Observer’s Top 10 Classical Music Performances of 2021, our 2022 production of Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea received five-star reviews from Plays to See and British Theatre, and we have been invited to contribute an innovative performance piece to the Monteverdi Festival in Cremona, Italy, in June 2023.

Every year the talented young soloists and instrumentalists of Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque perform a series of recitals of early music at London churches such as St Margaret’s Church, Putney and St John’s Church, Hyde Park and we take professional baroque opera productions to the Grimeborn Opera Festival at the Arcola Theatre, Hackney, and to the Cockpit Theatre, Marylebone.
