luminatus ensemble

luminatus ensemble performs a wide range of rare Renaissance music, alongside early Classical and Baroque repertoire. Research is carried out into currently neglected music, creating performing editions accessible to modern performers. The ensemble includes professional musicians of a high standing, who are able to adjust their performance skills in a flexible way. Forays are also made into some contemporary repertoire, especially music by female composers.

Recent performances have included the Bach St John Passion, settings of music by Franceso Guerrero, Tiburtio Massaino and Ippolito Baccusi. The 2024 CD, O Beata Virgo Maria, featured a wide range of previously unrecorded pieces and has been reviewed as 'excellent', reflecting the way this group has been described as an ensemble of 'exceptional quality'. A new CD will be released in early 2025, featuring music by Phillipe de Monte, Tiburtio Massaino and Ippolito Baccusi.

The ensemble is directed by Dr David Bray, an experienced trumpet player, conductor and researcher.
