Guitar, Lute, Theorbo

Italian Lutenist and Guitarist Ettore Marchi holds a Master of Music in Historical Performance from the Royal College of Music, London where he studied with Jakob Lindberg and Ashley Solomon. Ettore is currently a Linda Hill Scholar and was an award holder from the Henry Wood Accommodation Trust. Prior to his studies at the RCM, he graduated with Distinction in guitar from Conservatorio Statale G.B. Martini di Bologna, where he studied with Walter Zanetti. Ettore spent the 2014/15 academic year in Granada, where he held a classical guitar scholarship at Real Conservatorio Superior de Música “Victoria Eugenia” de Granada and also studied flamenco. In parallel, he developed an interest in historical performance at the Scuola di Musica Antica di Venezia – SMAV, where he trained as a lutenist with Massimo Lonardi. He decided to concentrate on Renaissance and Baroque music by continuing his lute studies with Massimo Lonardi at Conservatorio I.S.S.M. F. Vittadini di Pavia, where he completed his Masters with Distinction. Ettore has performed as a solo and collaborative guitarist and lutenist in chamber music and orchestra performances. Since 2009 he has performed at many concert venues and internationally renowned music festivals in many countries, notably Italy, Monaco, Japan, United Kingdom, Spain and Bolivia. Regular collaborative projects include the RCM Baroque Orchestra. Ettore has participated in master classes, summer courses and other studies at numerous prestigious private and public institutions throughout Europe with world-famous tutors such as Jakob Lindberg, Oscar Ghiglia, Lorenzo Micheli, Xavier Díaz-Latorre, Ricardo Gallén and Eliot Fisk. In particular in 2018 and 2019, he attended the 40th and 41st ‘Summer Academy of Fine Arts, Music and Theatre, in Neuburg on the Danube’, studying with Jakob Lindberg and Dame Emma Kirkby (voice and lute ensembles). Since 2016 Ettore has attended the Segovia Guitar Academy in Pordenone, where he studies with Paolo Pegoraro and Adriano del Sal. He performed as a theorbist and guitarist in RCM programmes like the Chamber Music Festival, the Museum Chamber Music Concert Series and the RCM Opera Studio in Handel’s Rodelinda conducted by Michael Rosewell at the Britten Theatre in London in 2021. In addition, in 2022 he performed as the theorbist and guitarist of the RCM Baroque Orchestra at the XIII Festival Internacional de Música Renacentista y Barroca Americana ‘Misiones de Chiquitos’ in Bolivia. Ettore is an experienced tutor of guitar and lute, which he has been teaching in several private and public institutions since 2007. His particular interests are the Renaissance solo and accompanied vocal repertoire for the lute and the 20th century guitar repertoire.
