Matthew Phillips is a cellist and composer. Born in Liverpool, he studied modern cello with Uli Heinen at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, alongside his studies in early music with Nick Stringfellow and Imogen Seth-Smith. Matthew is passionate about improvised performance, early music, and regularly collaborates with composers on new works. Since 2020, he has performed with the Calder Consort on baroque cello at concerts in large scale venues such as St Chad’s Cathedral Birmingham and Liverpool Cathedral.
