Tabea Debus

Described by The Times as 'a charismatic virtuoso', Tabea Debus is constantly exploring the horizons of music for the recorder.

As a soloist, collaborator and teacher, she travels widely across Europe and the USA, performing at Early Music Series in London and San Francisco, Spoleto Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and collaborating with La Serenissima, The English Concert and English Baroque Soloists, amongst others.

In 2023, Tabea joined the recorder quartet Palisander, whose theatrical concerts are devised for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Her keen interest in contemporary music for recorder has led to many prize-winning commissions and premieres, including at LSO Soundhub, the Barbican’s Sound Unbound and Listenpony.

Since 2024 she has held the recorder professorship at the HMTM Hannover and became a visiting professor at the GSMD in London in 2026. Passionate about outreach work, Tabea runs workshops for schoolchildren in the UK and further afield and regularly leads masterclasses, including at Cambridge and Oxford universities and the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music.

A winner of soloists' prizes at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the SRP/Moeck International Solo Recorder Competition, as well as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, Tabea is a frequent guest on BBC Radio 3 and has released eight solo discs to date.
