Sirinu has performed and recorded music from the eleventh century to the present day and concentrate on medieval and renaissance repertoire. Among contemporary pieces we commissioned Howard Skempton’s ‘The man hurdy-gurdy and me’ which was premiered at Peninsular Arts, Plymouth and which is the inspiration for their new recording on the Métier lable (released in 2020). Sirinu gave the opening concert at the National Centre for Early Music in York and have toured all over Britain and for the British Council abroad.
Biography
Sirinu is an ensemble of early instruments and voices, with an established reputation for lively and communicative performances based on sound musical scholarship. Since their formation in 1992 they have recorded for Hyperion, Chandos, Griffen, and EML and have appeared at festivals and Early Music Networks throughout Europe, North Africa, and South America. They also commission new pieces for early, folk, and non-mainstream instruments and combinations, and enjoy using unusual instruments and exploring the connections between different traditions.
