continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

William Byrd was one of the greatest composers of the European Renaissance. This sumptuous performance - with viols, cornetts and sackbuts – will be a wonderful celebration of the 400th anniversary of a composer who could have written Ex Cathedra’s manifesto: “since singing is so good a thing, I wish all would learn to sing.”

Alongside a selection of Byrd’s finest music, we give a rare performance of Thomas Tallis’ iconic 40-part motet Spem in alium – we couldn't resist it!

The programme includes:
Byrd, Masses for 3, 4 & 5 Voices (selected movements)
Byrd, Great Service (selected pieces)
Byrd, Ye sacred Muses
Tallis, Spem in alium

This concert will end at approximately 6pm.
