Jakob Bloch Jespersen - Bass, Lars Ulrik Mortensen - Director
Concerto Copenhagen I – I am a rose of Sharon – Buxtehude and his circle
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome one of the world’s leading baroque ensembles for a UK exclusive residency. They offer four wide-ranging programmes of beautiful baroque music including familiar composers as well as equally attractive works by lesser known figures. Under Lars Ulrik Mortensen’s direction a meticulous approach to historical material underpins its artistic orginality and continually evolving performance style and delivery.

Danish-born Dietrich Buxtehude was one of the great composers of the 17th century and a powerful influence on JS Bach and Handel. Director of Music at the great brick church of St Mary in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, Buxtehude’s originality and daring creativity inspired Baltic and North German composers of the late 17th century, laying the ground for the next generation of Baroque masters like young Bach who famously made the pilgrimage north to Lübeck on foot to learn from the man himself.

Franz Tunder Da mihi, Domini
Johann Balthasar Erben Sonata sopra ut, re, mi, fa, sol
Meder Gott, hilf mir
Andreas Kirchhoff Suite a 4 in G major
Buxtehude Mein Herz ist bereit
Heinrich Schmelzer Harmonica
Buxtehude Ich bin eine Blume zu Saron
