The festival opens with a delightful programme of music from the multi-virtuosic recorder consort Palisander, ‘Early Music’s very own Spice Girls’ – with inspirations from the Magic Island!

Throughout the ages, music and magic have been closely linked. With music by J.S.Bach and Hildegard von Bingen alongside renaissance consort music and contemporary works, the performance explores the historic relationship between music and the magical spectrum: maths, philosophy, nature, religion and the occult! Historical accounts and medieval spells mix with choreography for a unique event, not to be missed.

Palisander is famous for its imaginative, historical programmes, performing largely from memory, on recorders from 6 inches to 6 feet tall.
