Jane Austen: Home and Away
Jane Austen and her contemporaries explored lands near and far through music making at home. This special event, presented and devised by Professor Jeanice Brooks and Dr Mary-Jannet Leith as part of the University of Southampton’s ‘The Global Jane Austen’ conference, features the acclaimed early music group Ensemble Hesperi. Performing on instruments including a 1796 Broadwood grand piano, the ensemble will draw inspiration from the music books owned by the writer and her family for a lively tour of Austen’s musical world. After the concert, experts on 18th-century literature and travel from the University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities will join us for a discussion with audience participation.
