Acclaimed period instrument ensemble La Nuova Musica and an outstanding cast of soloists tackle Handel’s Italian cantata, first performed in Naples in 1708. With a similar plot to his better-known English Acis and Galatea of 1718, this work has an almost entirely different score. As it lacks an overture, that of Handel’s first London opera Rinaldo (1711) is performed for this occasion.
