La Tirana

Idas y Venidas

ENLIGHTENED MUSIC ACROSS SPAIN AND BRITAIN

Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez (historical cello & artistic direction) Sonia Hrechorowicz (harpsichord), and Ettore Marchi (romantic guitar)
Idas y Venidas
The programme Idas y Venidas ("coming and going") was born originally through the artistic research carried out at the Royal College of Music and funded by the prestigious scholarship scheme run by the British Spanish Society. The BSS awarded Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez with its 2021 Arts Scholarship to allow him to create an artistic proposal highlighting the travels of manuscripts, musicians and emotions during the Age of Enlightenment between Britain and Spain.

Now joined by his new ensemble La Tirana, composed of a mix of young talented and professional musicians, Pablo gives life to the Iberian cello manuscripts sleeping in the British archives and which offer a fascinating vision of the cultural life from the 18th-century Iberian Peninsula. The audience will be explained through a brief talk about the general context and each piece and will experience a sensorial trip through the richness of a time of openness and internationalism thanks to composers such as Boccherini, Soler, Porretti or Sor.

La Tirana is an ensemble that has the mission of recovering the forgotten and unexplored Galant music repertoire. The name of La Tirana, pays homage to the famous actress María del Rosario Fernández, painted by Goya, and hailed for her talents as a singer and declaimer. Her life, heroic and tragic, is one of the most fascinating biographies of her time. On the other side, her figure is a perfect example of the rich exchanges between the different forms of Art, a dialogue that La Tirana would like to emulate.
