Petrarca's Madrigals
ITALIAN SOUNDS IN LONDON 2024 - 'Tell me the truth about Love'

FRANCESCO PETRARCA'S Madrigals
The second concert of our Italian series celebrates the 650th anniversary of Francesco Petrarca's death. Join us for an exquisite programme of madrigals brought together by the poetry of Petrarca, the 14th century Tuscan scholar and poet whose sonnets were set to music by many composers from the end of the Renaissance to the beginning of the Baroque period.

Featuring rousing madrigals such as Marenzio’s 'Zefiro Torna', and soul-shattering arias such as Monteverdi’s 'Tu dormi? Ah, crudo core', as well as selections from Monteverdi’s masterpiece Orfeo and instrumental divisions.

Come hungry in soul and stomach because home-made focaccia, Italian biscuits and drinks will be available!
