An evening at El Capricho

Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez solo cello and artistic direction Sonia Hrechorowicz, solo and continuo harpsichord Hannah Parry and Joseph Lowe, violins Ana Dunne-Sequí, viola
An evening at El Capricho
The concert was on the occasion of the commemoration of the change of the European Union Presidency at the Spanish Embassy in London in front of the Spanish and Belgian ambassadors and many other European Union diplomats playing some Iberian music modern premieres from the Age of the Enlightenment.

The idea behind the programme is to highlight the figure of Countess-Duchess of Benavente, María Josefa Pimentel, who was one of the most fascinating aristocrats of the Spanish 18th century. She was the creator of the Junta de Damas, an enlightened society that promoted charity policies to improve the lives of orphans and prisoners. On the other hand, she also had an essential role as a cultural promoter of music, creating an orchestra that played not only Hispanic composers(Brunetti) but also included the European musical avant-garde (Haydn), using the best performers (Boccherini), in the magnificent Madrid setting of the Palacio del Capricho. We propose to re-create one of her possible musical evenings.

Symphonic works, harpsichord concerto and string quartet by Baset, Brunetti and Palomino. Boccherini and Porreti, solo cello concertos.
