Madrigals and Ballets by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)

Madrigals and Ballets by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
The ancient and atmospheric church of St Andrew, Kildwick in Craven provides the setting for the perfect spring outing. Join Leeds Baroque Choir and Consort, directed by Peter Holman, to experience some of Monteverdi’s most ravishing music: dramatic, passionate and delightfully cheeky by turns. Most of it was written for the Mantuan court and uses the singers and instrumentalists he assembled for his opera L’Orfeo in 1607, including solo voices, choir and a five-part Baroque string consort with harpsichord and theorbo.

The programme includes works from 'Scherzi musicali', 1609, the Balletto from 'Il ballo delle Ingrate' (1608) and 'Madrigali guerreri ed amorosi', published in 1638.
