Soprano and square piano duo The Little Song Party present Sense & Musicality, an authentic-sounding, light-hearted recital that explores the 'head vs heart' love story of Jane Austen and music.

Penelope Appleyard and Jonathan Delbridge investigate the part music played in Jane's life and writing, demonstrate some of the lesser-known musical habits of the Georgian lady and present a commission from composer Donna McKevitt.

The music, performed on an authentic 1814 square piano, will include some of Jane's favourite pieces, songs she played and sang herself, music connected with her novels, fashionable music she heard in concert, and music from TV and film adaptations. Delivered imaginatively in period dress, The Little Song Party 'seamlessly blends scholarship with entertainment'. A carefully crafted mix of music and spoken word, this thoroughly researched programme has something for all fans of Austen, music, history and literature!
