Jean-Étienne Liotard (1702-89) visited London on two occasions: in 1753 and again in 1772. This was exactly the time when music publishing was flourishing in England and more music-making than ever before started happening in domestic settings. It is very possible that Liotard heard some chamber music being performed at dinner parties and other functions he would have attended during his visits.

To celebrate the Gallery's exhibition "Discover Liotard and the Lavergne Family Breakfast", London Obbligato Collective recreates some of the music published in London during this period to recreate the sound world that Liotard may well have experienced.
