Nathaniel Mander

Harpsichord Recital at Copped Hall

Harpsichord Recital at Copped Hall
Nathaniel Mander is delighted to be returning to perform at Copped Hall, this time to include more extracts from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier alongside virtuosic pieces by Handel and Scarlatti.

Nathaniel is an early keyboard specialist celebrated for his expressive, elegant and virtuosic playing. Recognised as one of the leading harpsichordists and fortepianists of his generation, he is especially admired for his interpretations of French repertoire and the music of Bach and Mozart. His 2022 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations earned outstanding reviews and received the highest accolade from Dutch classical magazine Luister.

Nathaniel began as a pianist before being captivated by the harpsichord's crystalline sound, studying first with Richard Lester in Cirencester, where he also gave his debut recitals. In 2007 he moved to London to train at the Royal Academy of Music with Carole Cerasi, his most influential mentor. He later continued his development in Paris and Rome, studying with Beatrice Martin, Elisabeth Joye, Skip Sempe and Pierre Hantai. His prizes include First Prize at the Broadwood Harpsichord Competition. First Prize in the Early Keyboard Ensemble Competition at Fenton House, and awards at the Gianni Gambi Competition, John Kerr Award and Harold Samuel Bach Prize. He also held the Linda Hill Junior Fellowship at the Royal College of Music.

Nathaniel has performed internationally and frequently in France including with Les Musiciens du Louvre in Rameau's Platée at the Palais Garnier, broadcast live on France TV. A passionate communicator, he teaches, adjudicates and creates educational media to share his love of early keyboards.

This concert takes place on the First Floor State Hall in the Mansion. Access currently is only via a staircase, as there is no lift. Please contact the Box Office if you believe access may be a problem. Early booking is recommended, and there is no late entry to the concert.
