Newe Vialles

Ex Tempore

English music for two historical viols and continuo

Ex Tempore
Fantasias, dances, and divisions by Christopher Simpson, John Jenkins, William Young, Benjamin Hely, and others, played on two spectacular and historically-important English Viols. We are delighted to present our new recital programme in Birmingham, featuring music from our new CD project Newe Vialles / Old Viols. This is a rare opportunity to hear two original English viols by John Pitts (1675) and Edward Lewis (1703) played together live, exploring some of the repertoire that their original owners might have played! The concert features composed divisions and sonatas as well as our own arrangement of popular tunes from the time. Expect some fast divisions and lots of ornamentation!
