Nocturnalia Ensemble
BREMF Live Clubnight
Wit and Mirth
Mojca Jerman (violin), Alex Mastichiadis (organ and harpsichord), Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez (cello)

The instrumental English music of the late 17th century can be described as a mosaic of different, often contrasting, sounds. The long tradition of anti-intellectual music from the Elizabethan period, along with the influences of Italian and French music of the time, is unexpectedly combined with the traditional music of the region. The music written for the newly introduced violin includes not only sonatas but also variations for Scottish and Irish themes.
Pieces by Matteis, Locke, Playford, Purcell and popular English 17th-century folk music.
