Pellingmans' Saraband

Twentie Waies upon the Bels

Twentie Waies upon the Bels
The art of 'dividing' upon a ground bass, or playing 'divisions', was the Elizabethan and 17th-century equivalent of our modern jazz tradition. Sometimes improvised, sometimes composed, 'Division-Musicke' was central to the musical life of skilled amateur and professional players.

In this programme for viol and lute, virtuoso players Susanna Pell and Jacob Heringman (Pellingmans' Saraband) perform examples of this rich and vibrant repertoire, with an added festive twist.

This concert is part of the Early Music Shop free lunchtime concert series taking place in the 1853 Gallery in Salts Mill, Saltaire, and lasting approximately 45 minutes. Free admission with no tickets required.
