Quantz on Tour

Laura Piras (flute), David Wright (harpsichord)
Quantz on Tour

'Quantz is the God of Music', wrote Crown Prince Frederick in a letter to his sister. Virtuoso flautist, teacher to Frederick as King, composer and writer on music aesthetics, Johann Joachim Quantz was one of the most well-known musicians of the eighteenth century. Laura Piras and David Wright perform music for flute and harpsichord by Quantz, Blavet, Hasse and Vivaldi (as interpreted by J.S.Bach) in an exploration of the influences Quantz experienced while travelling around Europe and the styles of music heard in King Frederick the Great’s court.

Johann Joachim Quantz – Sonata in G Major No.273
Johann Adolf Hasse – Per questo dolce amplesso from Artaserse
Michel Blavet – Sonata in G Minor ‘La Lumague’ Op.2 No.4
