Rachel Podger

Flying Solo in Mayfield

Flying Solo in Mayfield
Rachel Podger is a phenomenon. She tours the world as an orchestral violinist and director but it is when she performs as she will be doing so in this concert – entirely on her own – that she is at her mesmeric best.

Four strings and one bow doesn’t sound like a lot when it comes to making gripping music on her Baroque violin, yet that’s all that Podger needs to grip you. While featuring mostly 17th- and 18th-century music from her recent album Tutta Sola, the programme also contains an original piece and a Bach arrangement by the British harpsichordist Chad Kelly. But yes, there’s Bach too, of course. Bach and Podger – a meeting of minds across the centuries.

“……the unsurpassed British glory of the baroque violin” The Times.
