The Gesualdo Six

Secret Byrd

Fretwork, Bill Barclay (Director), Concert Theatre Works
Secret Byrd
In this immersive performance, The Gesualdo Six collaborate with Fretwork to celebrate the 400 year legacy of William Byrd. The musicians gather by candlelight to worship in secret as Byrd’s incredible Mass for 5 voices is theatrically interspersed with his virtuosic music for strings. The event is secular yet staged to invite the audience into the deeply personal use that Byrd intended – a private mass for secret worship.

The performance is approximately 80 minutes without an interval. There will be one moment of complete blackout during the performance.

Secret Byrd was created and directed by Bill Barclay and produced by Concert Theatre Works.
