The Power of Paternal Love

Alessandro Stradella's 1678 opera 'La Forza dell'amor paterno' returns to the stage from the first time since the 17th century.

The Power of Paternal Love

Directed by Christopher Cowell and Designed by Anna Reid.

with the Musical and Amicable Society Orchestra conducted by Andrew Kirkman

At stake is the selflessness of paternal love: will a father sacrifice his own marital relationship for the benefit of his besotted son, or will he put his own happiness above all else?

As the story unravels, we are drawn into the inevitable baroque opera themes of unrequited love and pure desperation, mixed with the usual dose of comedy, and gossiping, as we follow the path of Cupid's dart.
