This playlist explores the fusion of Early Music with genres including pop, rock and jazz. Listen to interpretations of John Dowland songs from Sting's album Songs From The Labyrinth (Deutsche Grammophon) – celebrating the composer as the ultimate English singer-songwriter – in collaboration with Bosnian lutenist Edin Karamazov.

‘For me, they’re pop songs written in 1603 or whatever – beautiful melodies, fantastic lyrics, great accompaniments.’ - Sting (BBC Music Magazine, 2006)

Also featured are jazz-infused arrangements of Bach from French pianist and composer Jacques Loussier, and imaginative re-workings of the music of Purcell and Handel by Christina Pluhar and her ensemble L’Arpeggiata.

‘All baroque composers used strict forms, but those forms would also allow the singers and musicians to improvise and add ornament freely.’ - Christina Pluhar

There are also tracks from the world of Attila the Stockbroker and his band Barnstormer 1649 selected from their albums blending of punk rock and Renaissance music. You can read more about Attila the Stockbroker in this exclusive feature for Continuo Connect.
