Handel's Messiah

A celebration of Christmas

featuring Verity Haigh (soprano), John Low (bass)
Handel's Messiah

continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

Sung in English, Handel composed Messiah in 1741 with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens. It was first performed in April 1741 in Dublin followed by its London premiere nearly a year later and has become one of the best-known choral works in Western music.

Messiah reflects on the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus as foretold in Scripture. Though often performed at Christmas, Messiah was first performed in Eastertide and is fitting for the Season of Lent, during which we prepare to celebrate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus our Saviour.

Your generous support in the purchasing of tickets for the Messiah enables this performance to take place, and for us to keep our doors open to serve the people of London and beyond into the future.
