F. Scarlatti & Handel

F. Scarlatti & Handel
In one of the Bible's most powerful and gripping stories, Francesco Scarlatti brings to life a tale of betrayal, courage, faith, and love. The story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den lay forgotten in a library for centuries.

Now unearthed by Armonico Consort, Scarlatti's extraordinary work Daniele is among the most dramatic oratorios ever composed. Le Figaro (Paris) hailed their previous Scarlatti discovery as the greatest classical find of the century—this composition might just surpass it.

Francesco Scarlatti, once overlooked as part of a renowned musical dynasty, is now in the spotlight thanks to Armonico Consort and its founder-director, Christopher Monks. Their first modern performance of his thrilling oratorio Daniele in January 2024 marked a triumphant revival.

The programme also features Handel’s Dixit Dominus (HWV 232).

6pm: Pre-concert talk by Dr Geoffrey Webber.
