Rethinking Bach: The Cello Suites

Jorge Jiménez, historical violin
Rethinking Bach: The Cello Suites
RETHINKING BACH: 6 CELLO SUITES

Spanish violinist Jorge Jiménez takes us on a very personal journey to the center of one of the most celebrated set of solo pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, the immortal 6 Cello Suites, in a unique transcription for solo violin.

Rediscovered in the 1960’s by Spanish cellist Pau Casals, Bach’s Cello Suites are today considered amongst some of the most beautiful pieces ever written for a solo instrument. Jiménez and his original Ruggieri violin will colour the beauty of the Cello Suites with an unexpected range of new textures and frequencies which take this heavenly music to a new reality.

Jorge Jiménez is principal violin of some of the most exciting early music ensembles in Europe such as L’Arpeggiata, Forma Antiqva, The Hanover Band, La Risonanza and Laudonia and is renowned for his transcriptions and performances for unaccompanied violin. In 2019 he transcribed Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations for solo violin, an achievement described by the critics as “Visionary.”
