To accompany Continuo's recent feature interview with Peter Phillips, this latest playlist explores the extensive discography of The Tallis Scholars under his direction from recordings made between 1980 and 2024. Travelling through Renaissance Europe, we start in England with the ensemble's namesake, Tallis, alongside his student Byrd and other composers working in the country between the late 15th and early 17th centuries. Next we visit the work of the French and Franco-Flemish composers, including tracks from the Tallis Scholars' Gramophone Award-winning album of Josquin Masses. Moving to Spain, there is music by Tomás Luis de Victoria and Alonso Lobo; and finally, in Italy, the music of Palestrina, before concluding with Allegri's renowned Miserere.
