About

Buxton International Festival is the Peak District’s star-studded summer celebration of opera, music, jazz and books offering more than 160 events in the town's famous Frank Matcham Opera House and surrounding venues. Buxton has been listed as a must-visit festival by both The Times and Sunday Times this year.

Commenting, Michael Williams CEO said: “The roster at this summer’s Buxton International Festival is bigger and more impressive than ever before with artistic excellence, cultural vibrancy, originality and opinion forming events scheduled every day for 18 days.”

Early music has always featured at Buxton and 2024's highlights included a brand new production of Handel's opera 'Il Trionfo del tempo e del disinganno' by the Early Opera Company, conducted by Christian Curnyn; a recital by viol player, Samuel Ng and lutenist Kristiina Watt; vocal ensemble Stile Antico performs its three-pronged series, 'Toward the Dawn', 'Garden of Heavenly Delights' and 'Garden of Earthly Delights'; the award-winning Ensemble Hesperi returns to Buxton to perform Handel and Gambarini (among others), and Trilogy Ensemble Concert perform Vivalidi's fiery Baroque trios.
