Established in 1977 the York Early Music Festival is designed to celebrate York’s myriad of medieval churches, guildhalls and historic houses through historically informed music making of the highest international standard.

About
The York Early Music Festival was established in 1977 in order to celebrate music from the medieval to the baroque presented within an array of historic venues across the city of York. Supported by the Arts Council of England and the City of York, the festival is administered by the National Centre for Early Music.
The 2024 festival will be all about celebrating reinvention, recreation and song:
Something old, Something new, Something borrowed …
Guest artists joining this year include the award winning vocal ensemble Vox Luminis in a programme of Claudio Monteverdi presented in the Quire of York Minster; the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment directed by Steven Devine inviting us to join them at Zimmerman’s famous coffee House; lutenist Elizabeth Kenny brings her exhilarating Cubaroque project to the NCEM stage and BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artist Helen Charlston joins us as artist in residence with guests including Consone Quartet, Toby Carr, John Butt and Jonathan Manson.
